My Design Thinking Process
The band C.H.E.F. heavily relies on funk and psychedelic rock influences to develop their sound. I was inspired by old vinyl designs and retro colors to represent the band’s bright and classic sound.
Retro characters are a design trend that felt incredibly fitting for this young band, as they only entered the Chicago music scene in 2022. Making his first appearance on a T-shirt, Barry or “C.H.E.F. guy”, takes the form of a cartoon chef hat.
This sticker would also become the band’s logo, so I wanted to incorporate more music-related imagery, adding a boombox and music notes. This design also inspired the band’s next T-shirt design, featuring a cartoon hot dog holding the same boombox.
