My Design Thinking Process

After graduating from Gonzaga University (GU), I served for two years in the Americorps, working at GU’s Office of Sustainability as their Waste Reduction Educator.

In my role, I focused on waste education, implementing campaigns around campus to promote proper waste practices. During my second year, I facilitated the purchase of personal compost bins for three on-campus residence halls, which would act as the initial test subjects before the University decided to purchase bins for all on-campus residences.

As a way to advertise to the students, I designed stickers with the catch phrase “Feed Soil, Not Landfills”, encouraging the use of these compost bins. Each student that got a bin also received a sticker inside, many putting it on the front of their bin. With the help of my campaign, the year after I left, GU purchased personal compost bins for every residence hall on campus.
